Why is: "SynLube™ Lube−4−Life® Black" ?


SynLube™ Lube−4−Life® is a synergy of five different chemically inert liquid lubricants all of which have different light absorption characteristics.

The separate pure components are:

1.) Clear color-less

2.) Translucent light yellow

3.) Hazy translucent white

4.) Clear medium brown

5.) Clear phosphorescent light amber

When they are all mixed together in the appropriate ratio to achieve the unique properties that are present in SynLube™ Lube−4−Life® the final mixture is translucent and has a deep brownish-black color.

The theory of this phenomenon is not fully understood, but it is believed that the very strong adsorption of light is presumably connected with the transfer of an electron from one atom to another of the element that is present in two valence states.

Then the three solid lubricants are added:

1.) PTFE - reddish-pink or creamy white

2.) Graphite - dark gray

3.) Moly - dark green

And the finished SynLube™ Lube−4−Life® lubricant becomes opaque even in extremely thin film and the final color is dark greenish gray which sometimes changes depending on the operating conditions to more brownish tint.

This color is normal for the SynLube™ Lube−4−Life® lubricants and makes them distinctly different from any other lubricant available.

The color of the SynLube™ Lube−4−Life® will not change appreciably during the useful service life of the lubricant.

By contrast typical conventional Motor Oil, both petroleum and synthetic, ranges in color from clear amber to dark yellow when fresh and in a very short time will turn dark brown when the various additives that are present in modern oil become thermally activated or partially degraded.

Further petroleum motor oils will form "black sludge" during operation, and this sludge is held in suspension by detergents and dispersants until the oil is drained.

Conventional motor oils will appear clear when fresh and will change to dark brown or even black when used, therefore the change of color of conventional lubricants is a good indication of their relative "freshness".

The dark opaque color of SynLube™ Lube−4−Life® is however normal property of this lubricant and is in no way an indication of adverse lubricant quality.

Therefore we strongly suggest that you install SynLube™ Lube−4−Life® information tag or label where it is visible in the engine compartment and/or attach another tag to the dipstick, so that uninformed mechanics would not accidentally add different lubricant or drain SynLube™ Lube−4−Life® altogether because it was black.
